Probate Magistrate Heather Shannon brings the depth of experience and principled leadership that Greene County families deserve. Appointed full-time in 2022 to the Montgomery County Probate Court, she has presided over more than two thousand probate matters, including adoptions, estates, guardianships, trusts, and mental illness cases.
Heather, as a probate court magistrate, developed the Montgomery County Probate Resource Center and launched the Self-Help Center, both of which are groundbreaking initiatives. These initiatives have empowered families to navigate probate matters more easily, saving time, money, and unnecessary stress for court patrons
Before stepping onto the bench, Heather Shannon spent 15 years practicing probate and family law in Greene County. Her extensive legal background combined with real-world experience serving families during their most critical moments gives her a uniquely well-rounded and rare perspective essential for serving as Probate Judge. She understands not just the letter of the law, but the profound human impact of every decision made in probate court.
Heather Shannon’s heart for service goes beyond the courtroom. As a court-appointed guardian, she personally advocated for elderly individuals at risk of exploitation and provided her with rare and valuable insight into the challenges guardians face every day. . This hands-on experience fuels her passionate commitment to protecting Greene County’s most vulnerable residents.
Throughout her career, Probate Magistrate Shannon has been a leader in the legal community. She is a past President of the Greene County Bar Association and served as Chair of its Grievance and Ethics Committee, helping to uphold the highest standards of professional conduct. As a respected educator, she regularly trains local attorneys and court staff in probate law and procedure, helping shape a stronger legal system for legacies and futures are in steady, compassionate, and experienced hands.
